I went back to NUS today to crash the EL1101 lecture. Haha. I was quite surprised to find many of my freshies taking that module :) But the lecturer was quite weird...

She posted a "do not enter" sign on the door and when late comers entered, she actually went all the way up to the top of the LT to ask them if they knew how to read the sign.

Lecturer: Did you see the sign on the door? I'm sure you know how to read right? What did it say?
Student: Do not enter.
L: Then why did you enter? Don't you feel bad about breaking... *pause while searching for the right word* the sign?

Needless to say, her English isn't fantastic. She's a Japanese and it's odd that she is teaching an English module, but i guess knowledge of the rules of a language doesn't require being a master of it?

She also brought out this safety handbook to emphasise how everyone should not block the exits. Haha. And even went through a list of "rules of respect" which included not using handphones in class and not talking when the lecturer is talking.

She spent at least half an hour going though all these things, constantly calling out to late comers in between to come and sit in front.

As an outsider who doesn't have to take the module, i found everything rather amusing. But at the same time, i think what she's doing is a bit insulting to the students cos it's definitely stuff that they already know. Then again, it begs the question of why students don't follow these rules even though they know them, to the extent that the lecturer has to annoy everyone by going through them in class. Hmm.

All the same, the content is actually pretty interesting and the lecturer seems like she'll really do her best to help her students. Hope my freshies enjoy the mod in the end :)

Being back in school makes me feel nostalgic, but somehow, i feel like i don't belong there anymore, and i don't. And this reality is very obvious to me by the fact that i don't see people from my year around anymore. It felt like i was entering a new place... Thank goodness for the familiar juniors i met and that i met SY too! :)

It's ironic that although i've graduated, i'll still be going back to school for different reasons for the whole of the first week. Haha.

As a side note, i baked cookies today! :) They didn't come out as well as i had wanted though. But they're edible, so all's good :)
